Normal product support for 2019 versions of Office, Exchange Server, Project and Visio will end in a few days, on 10 October 2023. On this page we briefly summarise what this actually means and what solutions exist. A...
Microsoft software lifecycle
The lifecycle of Microsoft software products generally consists of two phases: normal support and extended support.
Normal support
Normal support means that Microsoft provides technical support, bug fixes and security updates for a product as long as it is in a supported state. Normal support generally lasts for five years from the date of release of the product. After the expiration of normal support, the product is moved to extended support, when Microsoft provides only security updates.
Extended support
The extended support is intended to provide a temporary solution for customers who do not yet want to migrate to a newer version. During extended support, Microsoft will not send new feature updates for programs already installed. Once extended support expires, the product will no longer be supported and will not receive any further updates or assistance.
What does "end of aid" mean?
After the support period ends, there is no technical support or other bug fixes - and most importantly, no more security updates. The software will continue to run - but at risk, because Microsoft does not "patch" newly found vulnerabilities. Users who ignore this are opening the door to cybercriminals.
Office version | Normal aid expiry date | Expiry of extended aid |
---|---|---|
Office 2013 | 10 April 2018. | 11 April 2023. |
Office 2016 | 13 October 2020. | 14 October 2025. |
Office 2019 | 10 October 2023. | 14 October 2025. |
Office 2021 | 13 October 2026. | 14 October 2030. |
End of support - what can be done?
The solution is to upgrade to a newer version. For most Microsoft products, there are several options:
- Moving to subscription and cloud-based solutions or
- Purchase and install the final version of the latest release.
How can we save money when upgrading from second-hand software?
Microsoft only offers the latest versions of all software. These latest versions are also available second-hand - and second-hand licences are often cheaper. We also offer earlier versions. For most companies, the feature set of these is fully sufficient, and often users don't even realise they are using an older version.
On our website you will find almost all the Microsoft software licences you could possibly need. Whether it's Office, Exchange Server, Project, you'll always find the best price and the best quality.
